आज का अध्याय यदि पर्व के बक वध पर्व आधारित है। किन्तु ये बकासुर-भीमसेन के युद्ध का वर्णन मात्र नहीं करता अपितु दो और महत्वपुर विषय पर ध्यान केंद्रित करता है।
1. क्यों इस अध्याय का शीर्षक बकासुर के संहार का श्रेय कुंती को देता है और इसी के साथ वो उनके दो पुत्रों कर्ण और भीमसेन की तुलना भी करता है। दोनों को ही कुंती ने संकट में डाल दिया था। पर दोनों की ही प्रतिक्रिया एक दूसरे से भिन्न हो उनके चरित्र की परिचायक थी।
2. महाभारत काल के एक साधारण औसत स्त्री की क्या दर्जा थी? क्या उनका परिवार के निर्णय में कोई हस्तक्षेप होता था?
